Welcome to Chris and Tory’s blog detailing the happenings of our year abroad. As one of 50 Fellows for the 2008-2009 year, Chris is the recipient of a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, which (apparently): offer[s] college graduates of unusual promise a year of independent, purposeful exploration and travel outside of the United States in order to enhance their capacity for resourcefulness, imagination, openness, and leadership and to foster their humane and effective participation in the world community.
Chris’ research during the year will focus on how cultural specificity plays into different cultures’ use of emergency shelter products and implementations. How can the design of these shelters enable local adaptation and cultural sensitivity? When it comes to emergency shelter, in the words of Wendell Berry, how can we “let the farm choose”?
We hope to hear from you! If you’d like to Skype, please send an email.
