watson home-making part 01: ferney-voltaire, france

Chris and I are temporarily staying in the most delightful flat just across the Swiss border in France.  Our host, Christine, left for Budapest a few hours after picking us up from the airport (where another lady gently crashed into her car - after Chris and I were half an hour late because we left something on the plane in Frankfurt).

We have an enormous porch that overlooks a bucolic pasture.  There is a hotel complex’s pool just to the left of this view.  On our run this afternoon, Chris and I figured out how we might sneak in and go for a swim!

Our apartment is HUGE (nearly five times the size of our “apartment” in Providence).  We have a kitchen, a dining room, a living room, two bedrooms, TWO bathrooms, and TWO hallways.  Each of the main rooms opens onto our porch, so we get lots of sunlight and fresh air:)

For our first European dinner, we had une baguette, du fromage francais, du salade, et du chocolat suisse.  Voila!

watson petting zoo part 02: diarrheic toad (atglen, PA)

Diarrheic Toad (DT) is proud to be profiled in the second edition of “Watson Petting Zoo”.  While enjoying the lush farmscape of our good friends the Potters (of similarly picturesque Atglen, Pennsylvania), Tory and I happened on this wonderful creature.

Me:     Take a photo while I hold him!
Tory:  How do I use the camera?
Me:     Here, you hold him and I’ll take the photo. (Hands DT to Tory)
Toad:  ***The time has come for me to poop because I am afraid***
Me:     Good thing I handed him to you before that happened.

You may also notice at the bottom of this post a convenient list of all posts in our rapidly-expanding “Watson Petting Zoo” feature.  Look for it in all recurring categories - I hope it’s useful.

watson petting zoo part 01: hungry swan (hopatcong, NJ)

With this inaugural post, we establish our “Waston Petting Zoo” series, devoted to the many sundry strange creatures we will no doubt encounter in our travels.  Conveniently, you can navigate our posts by category in the right-hand sidebar of any page, browsing by content or by country of origin.  As the breadth of our experience widens, so will the categories…

Behold Hungry Swan.

We came upon him at the Lake Saturday morning (July 5) and lulled him into a false sense of security with our tender morsels of stale cheap hamburger buns.  No doubt in the near future he will expect the same special treatment from some less gracious human being, who, with stunning irony, will promptly transform him into a meal of similar luxury.
